Edge me out, Jesus.

Some days, I think I’m great.

Some days, I think I’m disgusting.

Both days, I‘m stuck on myself.

I used to equate pride with making myself too big. But making myself too small can be equally risky if it causes fixation on self.

Pride is self-preoccupation. And we’re told this precarious position never ends well.

If we make ourselves too big, we miss the work of Jesus. If we make ourselves too small, we miss the work of Jesus.

So Jesus, make us You.

Empty us of us.

Fill us up with You.

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18 NIV.)
