Has God called you to something specific?
Are you suffocating under the weight of His call?
Could you be trying to do it by yourself, in your own strength, on your own merit?
His call comes with an essential component: dependence on Him.
And I’m not just referring to His power that opens doors for you. I’m referring to the open-heart surgery that may take place to ready you for His call. I’m referring to the emotional and practical toll of His call.
You simply cannot carry or accomplish the weight of His call apart from Him. After all, it is His call.
There is something so freeing about this desperate plea—“Jesus, I can’t.”
But don’t forget the last part—“Jesus, You can.”
If His calling makes you feel weak and incapable, you absolutely are—apart from Him.
If it makes you aware of your depravity, it should—you are depraved, apart from Him.
Even our noble and grand acts of faith and obedience—the ones that seemingly bolster the spiritual resume that doesn’t exist—need just as much of His grace as our lesser acts of faith.
We are frail and imperfect creatures redeemed by a perfect God.
To walk out that redemption, we are utterly dependent on Him for every second, for the rest of history.
Jesus, we need You.
When we think we’re at our worst, we need You.
When we think we’re at our best, we need You just as much.
His call on your life is impossible without Him because apart from Him, we can do nothing.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5.)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28.)
“Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?” (Galatians 3:3.)
